Making Tax Digital: the key dates
A quick reference for the quarterly updates and the Final Declaration under Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.
Quarterly update deadlines
Standard quarters end on 5 July, 5 October, 5 January and 5 April, each due a month and two days later, 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May. BusyBee Hub matches whichever quarters HMRC has on record for you and shows the next one on your tax timeline.
The Final Declaration
Due by 31 January following the end of the tax year, the same date as your balancing payment. Review annual adjustments, other income and HMRC's calculation, then file the declaration from BusyBee Hub.
What happens if you miss one
HMRC's penalty points system applies: a late quarterly update earns a point, and enough points bring a £200 fixed penalty, then another for each further delay. BusyBee Hub's tax timeline flags a deadline before it's due, and Radar reminds you again once it's inside 30 days, sooner if it's inside 7.
